Academy Council - Our Members

The role of the Academy Council is to support and challenge the standards of the school. As Council Members, we are also the protectors of its ethos and it is our duty to ensure that every child can achieve his or her full potential in a safe and caring environment.
  • Mrs Caroline Fielding

    Chair of New Close Council

    Caroline lives in Warminster and is a retired teacher of English, History and Drama. She has also worked for the LEA as an advisor on Teaching and Learning and Behaviour Management in Wiltshire Comprehensive schools.

    Caroline became an Assistant Head at Kingdown School in 2002, where one of her responsibilities was to liaise with local Primary Schools to support Transition into Year 7.

    Her area of responsibility on New Close Council is SEND (Special Education Needs and Disabilities)

  • Miss Jane Brown


    Jane began her teaching career in Secondary schools as a Science teacher, but in 1981 she graduated as a Primary School teacher. During a career break to look after her two children, Jane became a partner in a very successful pre-school. She then moved to Devon, where she taught in Primary schools for ten years, before moving to New Close, first as Deputy Head and then Head Teacher.

    Jane’s children have had successful careers in the Prison Service and the Army and she is kept busy with a very lively granddaughter and two dogs, Bert and Alf. When she has spare time, Jane enjoys reading, knitting and country walks with the dogs.

    Jane is the school's Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead. Her role on the Academy Council is to oversee the provision and delivery of the Humanities and Arts Curriculum.

  • Mr James Evans

    Executive Headteacher

    James grew up and was educated in Sherborne, Dorset, where his Head of PE inspired him to become a teacher. James taught in Reading and Kingston on Thames before coming to Kingdown in 2001.

    At Kingdown, James took on the roles of Head of PE, Director of Sport and Head of Sixth Form. Since the formation of The Acorn Education Trust, he has been a Primary Headteacher, Executive Headteacher and is now Head of Support Services for all the Acorn Academy schools.

    As Executive Headteacher, James meets regularly with the Chair of Council and attends Council meetings to present detailed reports. He is also our Designated Safeguarding Lead and ensures full compliance in this important aspect of school life.

  • Mr Ryan Bird

    Ryan lives locally in Warminster and has a background of working in education. He currently works at Oxford University as the Chief Executive of the Students' Union. Before this he worked at the Bristol University and Weston College. Ryan has been a governor in Westbury for many years and is keen to bring his experience to New Close School.

    He is the Academy Council member with responsibility for Literacy.

  • Miss Julie Jenkins

    Vice Chair of the Academy Council

    Julie has been a governor at New Close School for four years. Both her children went through their entire primary schooling at New Close and enjoyed their school life and education while here. Julie has enjoyed being a governor, seeing how the school works, the challenges it has faced and overcome to continue to be a happy and well rounded school.

    Julie is the Academy Council member with responsibility for Maths.

  • Mr Ian Page

    Ian is an experienced Academy Council Member and he has a son in the school. He serves in the military and his role on the Council is to oversee and develop our links with the army base and the wider community of Warminster.

  • Mrs Wendy Parker

    Wendy serves as a staff Council Member.

    Her three children attended the school, during which time she worked as a voluntary helper for many years. In January 1992, she joined the staff team as a teaching assistant in the Reception Class. After more than 20 years in Reception, Wendy moved to Year 3 for 18 months, before joining the Year 6 class, where she has enjoyed working for 3 years.

    Wendy's area of responsibility on the Academy Council is Science.

  • Mrs Lisa Reynolds

    Originally from Lincoln, Lisa moved down south 22 years ago when she married her husband Steve, who was based with the Royal Artillery at Larkhill in Salisbury. They have lived in Warminster for six years and have a 14 year old daughter, who attends Kingdown School.

    Lisa has worked for 19 years for Public Health England at Porton Down in the role of Business Manager. She has experience in admin management, workforce planning, HR and performance management and is currently undertaking Chartered Management Hons Degree qualification.

    Lisa was a school governor at Dilton Marsh Primary for over 4 years and joined New Close School as Academy Council Member just over a year ago.

    Lisa is the appointed Safeguarding Academy Council member.

  • Mrs Sade Salter

    Sade has lived in Warminster since June 2017 when her husband was posted here on a military posting. She is a parent Council Member and has two children at New Close.

    Her area of responsibility on the Council is overseeing the use of Pupil Premium funding.
