Handwriting

In line with the Little Wandle Phonics programme, pupils learn non-cursive letter formations as they learn their phonic sounds. This begins in EYFS and continues through KS1. The teacher in EYFS/Year 1 will judge when pupils are ready to start practicing cursive handwriting.

Children who struggle with handwriting have in class intervention support to help improve their gross/fine motor skills.

It is expected that children will have achieved their ‘Pen License’ by the end of year four. To earn this they need to demonstrate the targets set out below in all their writing, all the time.
