Class Expectations
Behaviour
We have high expectations of behaviour at New Close. Everything we do is centred around our six values:
Aspire, Positivity, Pride, Resilience, Respect and Responsibility.
We reward good behaviour with house points, great to be green stickers, going for gold as well as star of the week.
When children do not follow these expectations, they will receive consequences. These consequences (known as stages) are outlined in our Good Behaviour Policy.
What do I need to bring to school?
What do I need to bring to school everyday?
You will need:
- A named lunchbox and water bottle
- A healthy snack for playtime
- A waterproof coat from September to be prepared for all weather!
- Reading books and Reading Record
- A positive attitude!
PE kits
We are continuing to ask children to wear their full PE kits to school on the days when they have PE. This year PE is on a Wednesday. PE kit is:
- Red t shirt
- Black shorts/tracksuit bottoms/PE skirt
- Trainers
- School jumper/cardigan. No hoodies please
It is important that the children have the correct kit as they will be wearing this as their uniform for the day.
Forest School
Forest school is well underway this term and is every Monday. Children must bring the correct kit to school to change into. This is old clothes -long sleeved top, long sleeved bottoms and welly boots/old trainers, waterproof coat. Children without the correct kit may not be able to participate in forest school activities.
Homework
Homework
Homework is going to be spelling based, following on from an introductory spelling lesson on the Monday. It will be expected that children are practising their times tables each day (particularly Year 4) and to read daily. Homework is designed to support your child’s learning and help them to revisit skills taught in class. We aim to keep these tasks as simple as possible but children will benefit from some support at home to complete these tasks. Spelling homework will be set on a Monday and should be handed in by the following Monday when the children will go through the answers together. Children will receive house points for working hard on all aspects of their homework. For those who do not return their homework, they will be required to attend a homework catch up session on a Wednesday lunchtime.
Reading Expectations
Children will either come home with a progress school book or (as a free reader) have a book for pleasure.
The children will need to have their reading book in school every day along with their Reading Record book.
The expectation is that they read at home six times per week and please note the pages they have read in their reading record. This will be checked regularly throughout the week and adults will be regularly calling children to read at school to check progress.
Reading Races
We are continuing with reading races, encouraging children to read at home for pleasure. Your child will bring home their first reading race in Week 2. Every time your child reads at home they can colour a spot and complete activities at key points. Completed reading races should be returned to school and children will receive a reward.
Times Tables
As a Year 4 or 5, your child is expected to play TTRS – Times Table Rock Stars - online regularly. Please do come and see us though if this is not possible. This has proved to be very helpful for learning times tables, which in turn have a positive effect on children's ability to complete calculations at the YEar 4/5 standard. Your child's login has been stuck into their reading record, which will come home daily.
Let’s see who can become a TTRS Rock Legend!
